hoti gar uqda kushaii na yadullah ke saath
“zauq” hal kyonke mera uqda e mushkil hota.

yadullah being epithet for hazrat ali.

roughly translated this means that if it had not been for the intervention of ali ,how else would zauq’s difficulties be removed?

i received a copy of the gazal with the first line intact. let me see when i can reach it to you. this is one of the two gazals of ibrahim zauq that k l saigal sang.the other is the better known
laayee hayat aaye, qaza le chali chaley
apni khushi na aaye ,na apni khushi chaley.

in fact the matla a of the present gazal is different.

is tapish ka hai mazaa dil hi ko haasil hota
kaash mein ishq mein sar ta ba qadam dil hota.
